The Letter Q

Q (play /ˈkjuː/; named cue)[1] is the seventeenth letter of the basic modern Latin alphabet.

That's what comes up when you google the letter 'q'....(and yes, I just used 'google' as a verb!)

To me the letter 'q' means several different things. Not only is it a letter of the alphabet, but it also stands for something. It's a programming language, it's the name of a Star Trek character.....but most importantly...it stands for 'questioning'. Questioning what? Well, questioning everything from the reason you present yourself the way you do, to questioning why you are attracted to the people you are attracted to.

The letter 'Q' has been added to an important acronym...LGBTQ. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning. Why is 'questioning' part of it? Well, Questioning gives people a label that doesn't necessarily have to bind them to ONE box. I consider myself questioning because I'm not sure whether I'm a lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, or just attracted to the damn person! 'Questioning' gives me a place to put myself if people have to ask. Of course it's way easier to just say 'I'm Bisexual', but then you get the common assumption of it 'just being a phase'. I hate that!! Why do you have to choose one or the other?? When you become friends with someone, do you choose before hand whether you only want male or female friends? Usually not. So why should I put myself in a box that confines me to choosing ONE gender??!!! I DON"T WANT TO. I must say, I'm still not completely satisfied with the Q, however it does help. I also refer to myself as fluid. Fluid seems to be a term that doesn't indicate a FINAL decision which 'Questioning' sometimes does.
It's progress....we are ever evolving. We start as caterpillars and evolve into beautiful butterflies with all the colors of the rainbow.
I am a rainbow butterfly
